Case Examples
Case 1

PSEC worked with a senior-level technology executive who had chosen to leave her corporate position because of a desire and the opportunity she had to start her own advisory business.  She came to PSEC because she began to increasingly doubt her ability to succeed in her new endeavor.  In the assessment we identified the inaccurate way the client judged herself and her business and how these judgments were fueled by the recent changes in her longstanding professional identity.  We helped the client see why she had gotten so rattled, how she could effectively think about herself going forward and how she could focus on the pragmatic goals that would lead her to continued success. The client regained her confidence and landed several substantial client engagements. Her business is thriving.

Case 2

PSEC worked with the executive director of an established, but growing non-profit. He came to PSEC with the general idea that he wanted to be a better leader.  During the assessment we identified that though he had long been high achieving and demanding of himself, he struggled being assertive with both his board and staff. We devised and implemented a plan in which the client became more assertive in a manner that felt comfortable and genuine. The client learned to confidently engage his board and manage his team with an appropriate and effective level of authorization. The organization has substantially increased its funding and staff, and grown its reputation as an important and savvy player in its specialty area.

Case 3

PSEC consulted with a lawyer in solo practice concerned about the demand for his business, despite his consistently being busier than ever.  In the assessment sessions we identified the client’s hesitancy to consider taking on an associate, even as he freely admitted such a move made sense in many ways. Together we identified his biased sense that he “should” operate as an individual practitioner and how this way of thinking was holding him back given the realities of how his business was developing. We helped the client decide that adding an associate made sense. We then supported the client as he hired and on-boarded the associate, working through the resistance and stress that came up for him during that process. Since hiring and integrating his associate, the client has taken on significantly more business and has maximized how he allocates his time.

Case 4

An up and coming executive in digital advertising came to PSEC with concerns that he was not performing at a high enough level, despite his clear success. During the assessment we identified the harsh way in which he evaluated himself and believed others did as well. We identified how the client disempowered himself with this way of thinking, and let others do the same to him in subtle but significant ways. We helped the client shift his thinking and behavior, aligning his self image with his capabilities and performance. The client came to accurately understand his strengths and abilities. His colleagues began showing him the respect he clearly deserved and he was soon given a significant promotion.
